Greeting from Celso Duarte and Park Stickney
Celso Duarte and Park Stickney send a greeting!
Celso Duarte, winner of a 2005 Grammy Award.
You cannot talk about tradition, folklore, fusion and World Music, without discussing Celso Duarte, an artist whose knowledge of folklore from both Mexico and Paraguay (his countries of origin) is unparalleled.
In his music he traces the whole journey that, as the son of a well-known Paraguayan harpist, Celso Duarte (father), he experienced as a child.
Celso plays the Paraguayan harp, jarocha, electroacoustic, violin, guitars and jaranas; as well as singing. He is also an arranger and excellent improviser. His different techniques and musical styles are mixed, which makes him a versatile and constantly evolving musician, completely contemporary.
Charismatic, talented and profound, Celso Duarte has impressed the public around the world from a very early age and already has a long and celebrated career in the United States, Europe and Mexico. Celso Duarte has worked with Lila Downs since 1998 and has collaborated with artists such as Plácido Domingo, Mariza, Julieta Venegas and Susana Baca. Alongside his band he has performed at Carnegie Hall and in 2006 released his first solo album, De sur a sur / From South to South.
Park Stickney. His variety and depth of repertoire, his humor and vitality on stage, as well as an incredible ease of performance, make Park one of the most sought after jazz harpists in the world.
Park Stickney is a magnificent pedal harp jazz player, perhaps the most complete of our time. There is no harp festival without his presence. He not only improvises with the music, but with the moment. Whether performing his own compositions, recitals, jazz standards or classic harp repertoire, Park has the enormous capacity to create his own interpretation, while simultaneously drawing in his audience, in one way or another, to be part of what is happening on the stage.
Park is a jazz harp teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in London, assistant to the National Conservatory of Lyon and teaches improvisation at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Stickney has five solo CDs: Overdressed Late Guy, Action Harp Play Set, Still, Life with Jazz Harp, Surprise Corner, and All Harp – Globe Live.
